What is amenorrhea?
a- without; men/o- menstrual; rrhea: flow; without menstrual flow
What is adnexal tenderness?
tenderness of the ovarian region during a pelvic exam or papsmear
What is benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH)?
a condition where the prostate is enlarged, which may cause difficulty w urination
What is cervical dilation?
opening of the cervix
What is cervical motion tenderness?
tenderness on a pelvic exam, classically found in PID
What is costovertebral angle (CVA) tenderness?
tenderness in the lower back, suggestive of renal etiology

What is cervicitis?
inflammation of the cervix
What is dyspareunia?
-ia condition of
dys- painful; difficult ; abnormal
pareun/o- sexual intercourse
What is dysmenorrhea?
painful menstrual flow
What is an ectopic pregnancy?
aka: tubal pregnancy; pregnancy complication that occurs when the fertilized ovum is implanted into any tissue other than the uterine wall
What is dysuria?
painful urination
What is endometriosis?
metri/o uterus
endo- in, within
osis condition, usually abnormal
condition where the cells from the lining of the uterus grow in other areas of the body
What is flank pain?
pain on the side of the body between the abdomen and back , often indicative of renal pathology
What is GPA (grava/para/abortus)?
the total number of pregnancies, number of live births, number of births terminated or miscarried
What is a gravid uterus?
a uterus carrying a developing fetus
What is hematuria?
blood in the urine
What is hemodialysis?
a method for removing waste products from the blood of individuals with advanced renal disease
What is the inguinal region?
relating to the groin
What is nephrolithiasis?
kidney stones
What is pelvic inflammatory disease?
infection of the female reproductive organs, may be caused by some STD’s
What is polyuria?
frequent urination
What is prostatitis?
inflammation of the prostate
What is pyelonephritis?

What is a urinary tract infection (UTI)?
bacterial infection in the urinary tract
What is urinary incontenince?
involuntary leakage of urine
What is ureterolithiasis?
kidney stones which have progressed to the ureter
What is torsion?
twisting of an organ (ovarian or testicular torsion)
What is tubal ligation?
surgical procedure done to sterilize a woman by blocking or severing the fallopian tube
