Genito-Urinary - 20 Flashcards
Female vs Male Pelvis
female:
-lighter/thinner
-shallow false pelvis
-pelvic inlet = round and larger
-pelvic outlet = large
-subpubic angle is greater than 90 degress
-straighter coccyx
-more everted iscial tuberosities
Ligaments
broad ligament (fold of parietal peritoneum, attaches at pvery by mesovarium, a double fold peritoneum)
round ligaments (originate at uterine horn, exit pelvis at deep inguinal ring and inserts into labia majora)
ovarian ligaments (anchors ovaries to uterus)
suspensary ligaments (fold of peritoneum that extends from ovary to pelvis walls)
uterosacral ligaments (cervis to sacrum)
cardinal ligaments (cervix to pelvic wall)
Cremaster Muscle
- Bands of skeletal muscle arising from the
internal oblique muscles - Elevate the testes when it’s cold
Dartos Muscle
- Layer of smooth muscle in the superficial
fascia - Wrinkles the scrotal skin when it’s cold
Gonads = testes
-produce sperm that go through ducts
-secrete hormones
Penis
delivers sperm into female repro tract
-contains urethra
scrotum
-holds the testes
-provide a temp 3 below body temp for viable sperm
Ejaculation
Male ducts
-ductus epididymis (sperm mature, propelled to deferens)
-ducuts deferens (sends sperm towards urethra)
-urethra carries sperm to eviornment
Male glands
-empty secretions into ducts to make semen
-2 seminal vesicles: secrete viscous flui
-1 prostate: secrete milky fluid
-2 bulbourethral glands: secrete mudcous and alkaline
Ovaries
produce gametes (ovarian cortex has follciles), ovarian medulla has circulation, lymph and nerves
-ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone
Uterine wall
-perimetrium (outermost serous layer)
-myometrium (smooth muscles for labour contraction)
-endometrium (mucosal lining, where embryo implants and develops)
vestibule
region between labia minora
bulb of vestibule
2 erectil tissue masses deep to labia
fourchette
-when labie minora come together
-commonly torn
