Genital Organs Flashcards
Vesicouterine pouch
Space between bladder and uterus
Rectouterine pouch
Space between rectum and uterus
Broad ligament of the uterus
Two layers of peritoneum that hold the uterus in position, consists of three parts
Round ligament of the uterus
A remnant of the gubernaculum which holds the uterus anteverted anteflexed
Ovarian ligament
Fibromuscular cord that extends from the ovary the uterus below the uterine tube through the broad ligament
Retro uterine fold
Holds the cervix back and upward
Suspensory ligament of the ovary
Abandoned peritoneum that extends upward from the ovary to the pelvic wall and contains the ovarian artery and vein
Lateral cervical ligament of uterus
Also known as transverse cervical ligament, cardinal ligament, and mackenrodt’s ligament. Contain smooth muscle uterine vessels and nerves and supports uterus
Is the ovary covered by the broad ligament?
No and it is also not covered by peritoneum
Parts of the uterine or fallopian tube
Uterine part, Isthmus, and Ampulla
Female Superficial perineal space
innervated by the perennial branch of the pudendal nerve
includes:
-ischcavernosus
(Compresses crus)
-blubospongious
(compresses erectile tissue)
-Superficial transverse perennial muscle
(stabilizes perineal body)
-perineal body
(Fibromuscular mass for attachment)
-bulb of vestibule
(Erectile tissue)
-greater vestibular glands
(lubrication)
Female Deep perineal space
Innervated by perineal branch of pudendal nerve
Includes:
-Deep transverse perineal muscle
(stabilizes perineal body)
-sphincter urethrae
(Encircles and constricts urethra)
Male superficial perineal space
Innervated by perineal branches pudendal nerve
Includes:
-ischiocavernosus
(compresses veins for erection)
-blubospongious
(compresses veins to maintain erection)
-superficial transverse perineal muscle
(stabilizes perineal body)
-perineal body
(Fibromuscular attachment site)
Male deep perineal space
Innervated by the perineal branches of the pudendal nerve
Includes:
-Deep transverse perineal muscle
(stabilizes perineal body)
-sphincter urethrae
(constricts membranous urethra)
-Bulbourethral glands
(Lubrication for ejaculation)
Cardinal ligament
Ligament at the base of the broad ligament of the uterus that carries the uterine artery and uterine vein
