Genetics (Ch. 12) Flashcards
What is epigenetics?
the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work.
What is the structure of eukaryotic chromosomes?
View the Diagram Below…
Compare and contrast prokaryotic cell to eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotes are unicellular, prokaryotes have no nucleus, and no membrane-bound organelles while eukaryotes are multicellular with a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
How do you solve a dihybrid cross?
FOIL and then solve like normal Punnett square.
What is codominance?
When two alleles are expressed independently/at the same time
What is multiple alleles?
When there are more than 2 forms of alleles in a gene
What is polygenetic?
When several genes contribute to the final phenotype of a trait
What is incomplete dominance?
When both alleles in a gene are partially expressed on top of each other
How do you solve a Punnett square?
if you dont know this youre cooked
<3
What is Homozygous?
Two dominant or two recessive - Two of the same
What is Heterozygous?
One dominant and one recessive
What will the phenotype be if a Homozygous dominant gene is crossed with any other gene type?
The phenotype will always be the same as the Homozygous dominant gene is.
