Genetic Diagrams Flashcards
What are alleles?
Different versions of the same gene
What does homozygous mean?
That the alleles are the same
What does heterozygous mean?
That the alleles are different
How do Display recessive and dominant alleles?
Dominant - B
Recessive - b
What is your genotype?
It is the combination of alleles of you have
What is your phenotype?
It is the alleles that determine your characteristics.
Why are genetic diagrams useful?
They show the inheritance of a single characteristic.
Only inheriting 1 characteristic is called mono hybrid inheritance.
Give an example of a inheritance cross
If a homozygous dominant hamster breeds with a heterozygous recessive hamster then all offspring will have a mixture genes.
Whereas the offspring of the offspring 1 will have double recessive genes. And all other 3 will have a mixture of genes.
