What are the procedures for dividing the train on a platform?
This procedure is to be done with two drivers.
Arriving driver must:
• Stop 1 metre short of the six-car stopping mark at the platform
• Make a PA announcement informing passengers to detrain
• Secure the cab so it is not operational
• Ensure the Train lined Park Brakes have applied.
• Remain in cab ready to assist dividing driver
The dividing driver must:
• Be in position at the arriving six-car mark on the platform
• Confer with arriving driver regarding the intended divide
• De-train all passengers on the first unit while walking towards the leading
centre motor.
• Enter the leading centre motor
Station staff will de-train passengers in second unit and inform dividing driver.
When train is free of passengers:
• Close saloon doors
• Ensure train lined park brakes are applied (if required)
• Activate cab
• Follow the specific dividing process for the train type
• Communicate with assisting driver in leading cab to inform of the setback move
• On acknowledgement from the assisting driver that it is all right to setback
• Reverse the train no more than one (1) metre and secure the cab
• Enter the second unit cab of the divided train and perform cab and functionality tests.
What are the procedures for dividing the train in a siding / yard?
• Ensure there is enough clearance to divide and move trains apart
• Enter the centre cab of the unit that will be departing first
• Activate cab and divide the train as per train type instructions
• Walk to the leading cab and drive the train off to separate the units
