Generator Seal Oil Flashcards
What is the purpose of MT LO in the generator seal oil system?
Cools and conditions the seal oil
What is the purpose of the generator seal oil system?
Controls leakage of hydrogen gas.
Maintains hydrogen purity by preventing atmospheric contamination
What is the power source for the gen seal oil pumps?
NH
What is the power source for the emergency seal oil pump?
NK
How does the main generator interface with the gen SO system?
Receives and circulates seal oil for rotor shaft sealing
What is the purpose of the seal oil vacuum tank?
Lube oil enters through spray nozzles and a float valve to remove gases from the oil.
Remaining gases are removed from the recirculating flow.
What helps to reduce foaming in the vacuum tank?
Recirculation of oil from the tank back through the spray nozzles.
What happens to the oil in the vacuum tank if normal LO supply is not available?
SO is automatically recirculated and returned to the vacuum tank via the seal drain.
Where is the vacuum tank located?
140’ turbine building. NE corner
What is the purpose of the SO vacuum pump?
Takes suction on the SO tank and recirculates it to remove entrained gasses.
What seals and lubricates the vacuum pump?
Oil is supplied from a separator tank mounted above the pump.
What is the power supple for the vacuum pump?
NH
What is the purpose of the main SO pump?
Takes suction from the vacuum tank and pumps oil to the shaft seals at approx. 83 psig
What happens to excess oil pumped by the main SO pump?
Returned to the tank through relief valve PSV-11
What is the power supply to the main SO pump
NH
Where is the main SO pump located?
The main seal oil skid on the 140’ of the turbine building.
Where is the main SO pump controlled from?
Control room
What is the purpose of the recirculating seal oil pump?
Suction from the vacuum tank.
Discharge to downward spray nozzles in the vacuum tank.
Separates gasses from oil.
What is the power supply to the recirculating SO pump?
NH
Where is the recirculating SO pump located and controlled from?
140’ turbine bldg
Control room
What causes the emergency SO primo to auto start? Switch is in the auto position.
Failure of the main SO pump when low pressure signal is received at 110 psig at the main SO pump discharge.
What happens to the vacuum tank when the emergency pump is in operation?
The vacuum tank becomes inoperative.
Where is the emergency seal oil pump taking suction from?
Oil supply header
This allows the vacuum tank to fill with oil. (Causes LCV-25 to close so no oil enters the tank)
What happens when the emergency seal oil switch is placed in the test position? Can be done locally or from the control room..
Testing the auto actuation of the emergency pump.
Opens valve HV-13 which simulates low discharge condition.
What is the purpose of the seal oil filter?
Two in parallel, one in standby, three way valve to shift filters.
Paper filter to remove contaminants.
What must be in operation before admitting hydrogen to the generator and until it is purged?
Generator seal oil.
What happens if the main seal oil pump and the emergency seal oil pump is lost?
The main lube oil system will supply seal oil at a reduced pressure and hydrogen pressure will drop.
Generator load would need to be reduced.
What happens if there is a loss of seal oil and a leak is detected?
Turbine trip and limits of ignition sources.
What happens if the main lube oil supply to the seal oil system is lost?
It will become a closed loop system with drains from both detraining sections returning to the seal oil vacuum tank.
