General Study Notes Flashcards
How is passenger weight determined at Air Bravo?
Actual weight:
- by weighing each passenger
- volunteered weight, plus 10lbs plus clothes/carry-on
- estimated weight by pilot plus clothes/carry-on
Segmented weight:
- using chart to determine passenger weights (these include clothes)
Fuel requirements:
VFR:
30mins day, 45mins night reserve fuel, plus any other factors
IFR:
- fuel for flight, an approach and missed approach, to alternate and 45 min reserve
- descent at any point along route of flight to the lower of the single engine service ceiling or 10,000ft to cruise to do an approach and missed approach and hold for 30mins at 1500ft
- any other factors
Fuelling with passengers on board:
Is permitted if in a medevac flight. Requirements are:
- PIC asks for permission from medic to conduct fuelling
- PIC to supervise fuelling and stand near main exit
- engines not running
- flight crew member or medic must be on board to help evacuation, with a fire extinguisher within reach
- all exits are clear
- no power supplies
- no smoking
- oxygen must be available to the patient at all times
Restrictions:
- no Lightning within 8km of aeroplane
- combustion heaters to not be operated near airplane
- no HF equipment like weather radar to be on during fuelling
- no photographic equipment
Fuelling with aircraft engine running:
NOT AUTHORIZED.
Aircraft critical surface contamination shall be inspected by:
PIC or;
- someone delegated by the company who has received required training
VFR in controlled airspace weather requirements:
3 SM
Distance from cloud 500ft
Special VFR is authorized in at least 1SM visibility with visual reference to the ground at all times
Control area VFR weather requirements:
3 SM
500ft from cloud, 1 mile horizontally
Uncontrolled VFR requirements:
Above 1000 ft AGL:
- greater than 1 SM
- 500ft vertically and 2000ft horizontally from cloud
Below 1000ft AGL:
- 2 SM
- clear of cloud
VFR OTT:
NOT AUTHORIZED.
VFR is not permitted when:
At night, 1000ft above highest obstacle within 3SM
During day, 300ft AGL or 300ft from any obstacle
Crews are NOT to cancel IFR until field is in sight.
Takeoff minima - Standard & the OPS SPEC:
1/2 2600 RVR
Can conduct takeoffs and landings in IMC, when weather conditions are above takeoff, but below landing minima for runway in use.
- aircraft must be an approved single or multi engine aircraft
- takeoff alternate within 60mins at normal cruise speed

How long does it take for landing gear to retract?
12 seconds
How long does it take for flaps to extend to 15 degrees?
22 seconds
What is a typical rate of descent with a failed engine, feathered prop and clean configuration?
800fpm
What is the required tire pressure?
60psi
What is the typical range of A a PC-12?
1600 NM
Can the cargo door be closed from the inside of the aircraft?
No
What are the dimensions of the cargo door?
52” x 53”
What should be a nominal pressure observed on the hydraulic reservoir before flight?
In 0 degrees: 56 PSI
How long with the landing gear stay up after failure of the hydraulic power pack?
200 min
What is the maximum wind speed for operation of the cargo door?
60kts
How many knots aove stall will stick shaker activate?
5-10kts
How many knots above stall with stick pusher activate?
2-5kts
Which side AoA sends information to AoA indicator?
Left side (captain side)
Why will the elevator be heavy when pusher interrupt is activated?
FO side interrupt will stop the servo
Captain side interrupt will stop the servo and capstan clutch
What is the max altitude for an air start?
20,000ft
What is the approximate glide ratio for a PC-12 in clean config with prop feathered?
1:15
Multiply altitude by 2.5 to get distance
How long will it take to descend from FL280 to surface in bet glide with engine off?
approximately 35min
(Using typical glide descent rate)
Will trim runaway warble tone sound for both trim motors or only certain one?
Only for manual trim.
How much flap asymmetry is required to illuminate FLAPS CAWS light?
5 degree difference
What category is the PC-12 certified for?
Normal category
What are the 2 service bays at the front of the aircraft?
Left bay is wet (fuel system)
Right bay is dry (ECS system)
What is the propeller ground clearance and and at the max C of G limit?
Nose wheel properly inflated at MTOW and at most forward C of G is 12.5”
Nose wheel strut completely compressed is 1.9”
What is the engien rated at?
1600 SHP flat rated to 1200 SHP
What is the firewall comprised of?
Titanium and covered in insulation
What does the torque limiter do?
Prevents engine from exceeding 44.34 TRQ.
If the oil pressure to the prop exceeds 44.34 the spring valve is open, causing a drop in Py pressure in the FCU, therefore slightly reducing Ng, Nf (compressor turbine speed) and Np.
What does Py pressure correspond to?
FCU, reduces metered fuel flow if Py drops.
What does the purge can do?
Prevents residual fuel; i.e. shoves the remaining fuel back into the combustion chamber to be further burned off during engine shutdown
