What is the purpose of the heat exchanger in the air cycle machine?
To lower the temperature of the bleed air
What causes the airflow to be present over the heat exchanger while on the ground?
The fan that is driven by the cooling turbine
What is the purpose of the water injection in front of the heat exchanger?
To increase cooling efficiency, by way of the latent heat process of evaporation.
Where does the water come from in the water injection?
From the water separator, downstream of the cooling turbine.
What could cause ECS system failure?
An over temperature in the bleed lines.
What could be used to control air temperature if the air temperature TCV fails?
By using the manual hot/cold rocker switch
Will the cabin depressurize if the ECS emergency shutoff is pulled?
No. It is a one way valve, aircraft will slowly lose pressurization.
How much current will be drained when running the VCCS?
98 A from the compressor, and 6 A for each recirculating fan.
What happens to the moisture that is removed by each evaporator coil?
It gets released overboard, when cabin differential is 0
What is max altitude for VCCS operation?
FL250
