General Principles of Exercise Training Flashcards

1
Q

FITT Principal: Training Variables

A
F= Frequency - number of exercise sessions each week
I= Intensity - difficulty
T= Time
T= Type

The variables are interrelated, so sac may affect the others. For example, a significant increase in intensity will most likely result in decreased duration

Q

Principle of overload

A

To achieve training improvements of effect, the relevant body system must b e overloaded beyond its normal level or present capabilities (the training affectP. The body responds to overload with increased capacity.

Q

Specificity of Training Principle (SAID)

A

The body will adapt to the type of physiological stresses placed on it

S = Specific
A = Adaptations to
I = Imposed
D = Demands

Q

Reversibility Principle

A

If a training workload is discontinued or decreased, detraining in performance will occur. Cardio-repiratory fitness generally decreases after 2-3 weeks, muscular fitness after 2-3 months

Q

Principal of Overtraining

A

The body needs time to recover and the musculoskeletal system needs time to rebuild from the stress of vigorous exercise. If this isn’t allowed, overtraining may occur.
