What does the ‘Tui’ in the PNT logo represent?

A
  • Known as the chatterboxes of New Zealand birds
  • Are friendly, inquisitive, full of life and sometimes confrontational

-Tui are considered to be very intelligent,
eloquent and can replicate complex speech

-The Tui has a double voice box - enabling its vast range of vocalisation – enabling them to change pitch and intonation

When should PNT be used?

A
  • In the resolution of high risk situations
  • PNT should also be considered in any other instance where it is believed a trained negotiator will be of assistance to Police in the performance of their duties.

What are the three negotiator squads?

A
  1. PNT (Police Negotiation Team)
    District PNT
  2. APNT (Advanced Police Negotiation Team)
    Enhanced capability for major incidents (sieges, hostages, terrorist, kidnapping etc).
  3. IRF (International Response Team)
    Supports internal/external agencies such as Police Executive, MFAT. Made up of APNT members.

Search warrants
WTA’s
Kidnap for ransom
Unarmed barricaded offender(s)
Cell extractions
People in crisis/mental distress (incl via comms)
Hostage situations
Terrorist incidents
issues motivated groups or individuals (protests)
Any other situation that my be resolved by negotiation
