1
Q

Robert Koch

A

Q

Koch’s postulates

A
  1. microorganism must be found in abundance in diseased organisms only, not healthy.
  2. microorganism must isolated and grown in pure culture
  3. cultured microorganism should cause disease when introduced to a healthy organism
  4. microorganism must be re-isolated from the diseased host and identified as being identical to the original causative agent

Joseph Lister

A

Father of antiseptic surgery.
used carbolic acid (phenol)
developed system of antiseptic surgery to prevent microorganisms from entering wounds. introduced clean gowns and insisted on hand washing

A

microbes come from the air and boiling will kill them

18
Q

Louis Pasteur

A

disproved spontaneous generation with the curved neck flask.
avirulent (attenuated) strains to prevent diseases.
rabies vaccine

19
Q

rabies vaccine

A

Louis Pasteur developed.

sample of virus harvested from infected, dead rabbits and weakened it by allowing it to dry for 5-10 days
