Posture
The position a dancer holds their body upright against gravity
Poise
The correct way the dancer holds the body
Balance
The equality of body weight distribution over one or both feet, stationary or moving
Dynamics of movement
Adding interest to movements in different ways, for example, changing the speed of a movement, adding their own gestures, body tension and weight transference
Choreography
The compilation of movements which make up a routine
Figure
A number of steps linked together to make a movement
Routine
A number of figures that connect to make part of or all of a dance
Travelling
The body moving from one space to another by walking, skipping, running etc
Travelling patterns
The body moving from one space to another using direct or flexible routes such as zig-zag, curving, straight etc. the movement can also use different heights
On the spot
Dance movements that are confined to a small area which could include height changes, rocking, stationary spin etc
Directional chart
The chart that displays the directions the dancer can face, back, or move in. This includes: front, left, right, back, right and left diagonal front and back.
