Horizontal
Arms stretched out to the side at shoulder height. When the hands come closer together, this is horizontal flexion. When then return to the start, this is horizontal extension.
Parallel
Arms maintaining the same distance from each other
Right diagonal high
Right arm held high, upwards and outwards, left arm held low in the opposite direction
Left diagonal high
Left arm held high, upwards and outwards, right arm held low in the opposite direction
High V
Raising both arms to an upwards, outwards position
Low V
Taking both arms downwards and outwards
Non symmetrical arms
The positions of the left and right arms are different. E.g. right arm horizontal and left arm high V
Arm rotation
From the shoulder or elbow the arms can circle forwards or backwards in any direction
Arm swings
Using forward flexion and extension or abduction and adduction
Pulling
The action of retraction the arm from an extended position
Pushing
From the retracted position, arms move out to an extended positin
Zig-Zag
Arms moving in front of the body, crossing in front of each other
Bicep curls
Starting with arms stretched out in front or horizontally, the hands are drawn up to the shoulders and extended back to the start position
Head
The correct positioning of the head helps to control the stability of the body. It controls the centre of gravity
Erect
Head positioned directly above the spine with the feeling of a neutral position
