What is the anatomical position?
-standing upright
-facing the observer, head level
-eyes facing forward
-feet flat on the floor
-arms at the sides
-palms turned forward (ventral)
What is the axial region?
-top of the head to the perineum
-the main axis of the body
What is the appendicular region?
the limbs
What does the trunk region include?
-thorax, abdomen, pelvis, perineum
What is it called if the body is lying face down?
prone position
What is it called if the body is laying face up?
supine position
How does the frontal plane divide the body?
-front half and back half
-separates anterior and posterior portions
How does the median (midsagittal) plane divide the body?
-left half and right half
How does the transverse plane divide the body?
-top half and bottom half
-separates superior and inferior portions
What are two synonyms to transverse?
horizontal
cross-sectional
What is it called if something is cut sagittally but the left and right sections aren’t equal?
parasagittal
What is the difference between frontal and coronal
-they both separate anterior and posterior portions but coronal usually refers to sections passing through the skull
