General Flashcards
Disseminated intravascular Coagulation
All coag factors Would be decreased
Heparin induced thrombocytopenia
History of heparin use
Heparin PF4 antibodies in serum
Idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura
No consumption coagulopathy
Normal PT aPTT
RBC Definition
The RBC in dices describe the size, shape, and hemoglobin contact of RBCs, as well as the uniformity of the RBC population
MCV definition
Mean corpuscular volume is the average volume (size) of the patients RBCs
MCH Definition
Mean corpuscular hemoglobin is the average hemoglobin Contant in the RBC
MCHC Definition
Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration is the average hemoglobin concentration per RBC
RDW Definition
Red cell distribution with is a measure of the variation of RBC size, which is reflected in the degree of anisocytosis on the peripheral blood smear a high RDW implies a large variation in RBC sizes and a low RDW implies a more homogeneous population of RBCs
HGB Definition
Hemoglobin concentration is the concentration of hemoglobin, the major oxygen carrying molecule in whole blood
HCT Definition
Hematocrit also called packed cell volume, is the pact spun volume of blood that consists of intact RBCs expressed as a percentage
Transfusion related acute lung injury
Characterized by hypoxia, and dyspnea, as well as fever and hypotension, occurring during or within hours of a transfusion and resembles non cardiac pulmonary edema
Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle mutation is co-inherited with a mutation at the other beta glob in allele that reduces or abolishes normal beta globin production
Occurs as a result of abnormal hemoglobin synthesis due to DNA point muttaion
