General Flashcards
Blood volume dog
90ml/kg
Blood volume cat
60-70ml/kg
Failure to produce what volume of urine after fluid replacement indicates indicates inadequate replacement or renal failure?
1ml/kg/h
Blood pressure values
<140mmHg - normotensive
140-159 - pre-hypertensive
160-179 = hypertensive - risk end organ damage
>180mmHg - marked risk end organ damage.
Marked decrease in PCV
<20% dogs
<15% cats
Dehydration clinical signs for percentage losses
<5% not detectable on clinical examination
5-8% decreased skin turgor, dry mucus membranes
8-10% decreased skin turgor, dry mms, eyes sunken in orbits, prolonged CRT
10-12% severe skin tenting, prolonged CRT, dry mms, sunken eyes, shock
>12% shock: life threatening
Dehydration vs hypovolaemia
Dehydration = loss of body fluids - changes in all fluid compartments.
Hypovolaemia - decreased blood volume.
