Gene Environment Flashcards
What type of study was Caspi’s study on gene environment
Longitudinal
Who was measured for Caspi’s study and when
1037 birth cohort
-Assessed at age 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 21, 26
What did Caspi’s study attempt to test
Tested whether antisocial behaviour would be predicted by an interaction between a gene (MAOA) and an environment (maltreatment)
What is MAOA
Monoamine oxidise A
What does MAOA do
Known to metabolise neurotransmitters like norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine. All of which important for regulating body’s response to mood, emotion.
What did Caspi’s study say about conduct disorders
Maltreated males with low MAOA activity more likely to develop conduct disorder THAN non maltreated low activity MAOA genes.
What did Caspi’s study say about violent crime
Maltreated low activity MAOA males were more likely to be convicted of a violent crime than nonmaltruated low activity counterparts.
What did Caspi’s study say about antisocial scores.
Low activity MAOA gene children who were maltreated had significantly elevated antisocial scores compared to low MAOA counterparts who were not maltreated. In contrast, males with high MAOA activity didn’t have high antisocial scores, even when they were maltreated.
