What is Klinefelter syndrome?

A

A sex-chromosomal abnormality. Happens when there is an extra X chromosome in males. Impacts development of male sex characteristics such as small testes, infertility, enlarged breasts. Often are taller than peers, cognitive deficits in area of language development.

What is Turner syndrome?

A

Loss of X chromosome material in females. Short stature, underdeveloped ovaries, normal intelligence, extra folds of skin on neck (webbed), lower hairline at back of neck, kidney problems, nonverbal learning deficits, behavioral problems.

What is Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia?

A

Lack of certain enzyme. Result is increased production of androgens. Girls may have normal internal structures but masculinized external structures and characteristics (deep voice). In boys it means extremely early puberty as early as age 2. Significant variation in symptom presentation.

A

Effects chromosomal males (XY). Prenatally insensitive to androgens. Genitals do not become masculinized and they are usually raised as females.
