Official statistics of differences in the achievement of girls and boys
A
- end of year 1, girls ahead of boys by between 7-17% points in all areas
- DfE study2013, found boys were 2 and a half more likely than girls to have statements of special educational needs
- at key stages 1-3, girls do consistently better. English, gender gap steadily widens with age
- GCSE, gender gap at 10% points
- at AS/A level, girls are more likely to sit, pass and get higher grades than boys, though the gap is much narrower than at GCSE
- vocational courses, a large proportion of girls achieve distinctions in every subject including those such as engineering and construction where they make up the minority
