  • subject choice can be pressured by peer pressure. Girls and boys may apply pressure on an individual if they disapprove of their choice. For example boys opt out of music and dance because of peer pressure

Preacher says pupils who see sport as manly within the male gender domain girls have to cope with image that isn’t feminine.

Dewar says girls labelled lesbian. By contrast absence peer pressure from opposite sex may explain why girls from single sex schools likely to choose traditional male subjects.
