When we enter the classroom, through:
-Sex-segregated toys
-Female students receive less active instruction
-Boys are assigned more physical/technological tasks, while girls are assigned with “soft tasks”
When does gender intensification take place?
During adolescence; children begin to view gender as more rigid
What do girls tend to experience as they enter junior high regarding self-esteem
Girls tend to have high self-esteem and achievement levels during elementary, but self-esteem drops dramatically in junior high
Do all girls experience a drop in self-esteem as they enter junior high?
No. Particularly, no similar decline was observed in black girls

When girls realize that they are valued more for their appearance than their talents
