Géibheann - Notaí Ginearálta AL Flashcards
This is a figurative poem, the animal represents the poet herself and shows the poets case.
Is dán fáthchiallach é an dán seo, seasann an t-ainmhí seo don fhile féin agus léiríonn sé cás an fhile.
It describes the life of an animal in a zoo. The animal used to be a Nobel animal, powerful, long ago. But now, it is locked in a place that’s unsuitable for it. It is depressed now and her spirit is broken.
Déantar cur síos ar shaol an ainmhí i ngairdín na n-ainmhithe. Bhíodh an t-ainmhí mar ainmhí uasal, cumhachtach fadó. Ach anois, tá sé faoi ghlas in áit mí-óiriúnach dó. Tá sé in isle brí, anois agus tá a spiorad briste.
When he was free, he was a fierce king in his native land and he shook the trees with the strength of his roar.
Nuair a bhí sé saor, bhí sé ina rí fíochmhar ar a áit dhúchais agus chroith sé na crainnte le neart a ghlóir.
The animal is under control now and he has no hope. His nobility is lost. He lies down looking through one eye at one tree now in a forest
Tá an t-ainmhí faoi smacht anois agus níl aon dóchas aige. Tá a chuid uaisleachta caillte. Luíonn sé síos ag féachaint trí leathshúil an crann amháin anois in ionad coille mhór.
It shows us how a loss of control and captivity can break a persons spirit.
Taispeántar dúinn an chaoi ina mbriseann smacht agus géibheannas spiorad an duine.
The poet relies on her life in comparison with her past
Braitheann an file go bhfuil sí teanntaithe ina saol i gcomparáid lena saol roimhe seo.
Although well know as a beautiful woman, a great poet and an outstanding artist she cannot make herself known because now she is a beautiful animal all locked up.
Cé go bhfuil clú uirthi mae bhean álainn, fhile iontach agus ealaíontóir den scoth, ní féidir leí í féin a chur in úil mar tá sí ar nós ainmhí alta faoi ghlas.
Even though there are visitors with her, staring at her, they can’t free her - give her freedom from cancer, that is draining the life out of her.
Cé go mbíonn, cuairteoirí leí, ag stanadh uirthi, ní féidir leo í a shaoradh - saoirse a thabhairt dí ón ailse, a bhí ag sú na beatha uaithi.
There are two levels in the poem. The story of the animal and the story of the poet are connected together because of the hardship.
Tá dhá léibheál ag an dán seo. Tá scéal an t-ainmhí agus an scéal an fhile ceangailte le chéile mar bhí siad sa chruachás céanta.
