Gear and Brakes Flashcards
When is nose wheel steering off
1 Hydraulic system 2 depressurized
2 Steering disconnect switch is pressed on yolk. (no need to hold switch)
3. External Steering Disengage switch is set to disengage
STEER OFF status is displayed.
Gear position indications
Down locked - Green circles
Up locked - white squares
Transit - amber cross hashed squares
Disagreement - Red - square on wheel with disagreement
Emergency parking break accumulator amber
EMER ACCU PSI shows green or amber.
if amber it can be recharged by turning on ACMP 1 and 2
Autobrake RTO setting behavior
Recognizes RTO by
- wheel speed above 60 kts and
- thrust levers in IDLE or REV/max reverse
Brakes release when:
Fault < 60kts
Break pressure applied (20%)
Thrust > idle
Weight off wheels - RTO automatically snaps to OFF.
System will not engage if brakes are being pressed while RTO is selected. Will turn off if push backed at more than 6 kts.
Autobrake LO
MED
HIGH
Applies brakes 2 seconds after touchdown
LOW: gentle slow at 2 knots per second .12Gs.
Med: slows at 4 knots per second or .24 Gs
High: slows at 8 knots per second or .41 Gs (rarely used)
Releases brakes when
.system faults
.> 20% brake pressure applied
.Thrust brought up from idle
Emergency parking brake light
Below autobrake selector. Used to verify that the brake is engaged when selected.
Gear down and lock release button
Gear handle is mechanically locked down when WOW is sensed. Red button next to handle may be pressed during climb if obstacles need to be cleared and handle is locked.
Landing gear warning inhibition button
used to silence the warning if directed by QRH. will not inhibit if flaps are 5 or full.
Alternate Gear extension
2 methods
- Electrical override switch
next to Gear lever- select gear down and it will electronically override sensors and evaluation computers and extend the landing gear. - Pull lever. - releases hydraulic pressure in landing gear lines to release locks and with gravity and air, the gear is extended. Yawing may be needed for a main to fully extend
BCM (brake control modules) provide brake protection by:
Anti-skid protection - activated above 10kts
Automatic MAIN wheel braking during gear retraction.
Touchdown protection - prevents braking before touchdown. after landing prevents brakes applied before 3 seconds unless 50 kts
Locked wheel protection - prevents locked wheels by comparing inboard and outboard speeds. Active when > 30 kts.
How to use nosewheel steering
Rudders provide 7 degrees or steering if steering is engaged and hyd 2 is pressurized.
While tiller is used. rudders will not steer. Tiller can turn up to 76 degrees on the nose wheel.
