Gastrulation + Organogenesis Flashcards
What is gastrulation?
Movement of cells in embryonic disc to form multiple layers
what does gastrulation do and form?
Inner cell mass flattens by end of 2nd wee-k- forming embryonic disc
What are the two layers of the embryonic disc?
Ectoderm (outer)
Endoderm (inner)
What does folding of ectoderm and endoderm produce?
A middle layer called the mesoderm
What are all organs form from these 3 primary germ layers, what is the process called?
Organogenesis
What is a 2 week embryo which contains all 3 primary germ layers called?
Gastrula
What does the ectoderm do?
Gives rise to nervous system
what does the mesoderm do?
forms all types of muscle tissue (e.g. bone tissue, connective tissue)
what does the endoderm do?
Produces the epithelial linings of the digestive tract
