What is fertilisation, what does it results in and where does it happen?
Joining of a secondary oocyte (cell formed by meiosis) and a sperm cell
Results in a zygote
Happens in the uterine tube (fallopian tube)
Transport of sex cells

Sperm enters uterine tube
What are the two factors that help the sperm reach the egg?
Prostaglandins
Oestrogen
Where is prostaglandins found and what is its function?
Found in semen
Stimulate lashing movement of the sperm tail to swim
Causes muscular contraction of the uterine tube
What does oestrogen do and why does it help with sperm reaching the egg?
Produced first half of menstrual cycle and uterine secretion are watery
Allows easy sperm transport
Less of a barrier when its watery
