    • dermis: high CT papillae, highly vascular
    • blood vessels on surface
    • devoid of sweat glands and salivary glands
  • Mucosal part:
    • thick non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium
    • lamina propria: CT papillae
    • submucosa: strong collagenous CT
    • small labial glands between lamina propr. + orbicular oris
