Two types:
- Vomitting or Diorrhoea within 6 hrs

A
Gram -ve Bacillus Diorrhoea can be bloody or non bloody Eggs Rose Spots on the chest or the abdomen Diagnosis is through blood culture Tx: Ciprofloxacin

Shigella
A
Gram -ve Rod
Blood Diorrhoea vomitting ot abdominal pain
48-72 hr incubation
ampicillin or tetracycline if severe

Amoebiasis
A
- Prolonged Bloody Diorrhoea
- Caused by entamoeba histolytica
- Incubation = >7days
- Treatment is metronidazole

Giardiasis
A
- Prolonged non bloody diorrhoea
- DUe to giardia lambiala
- incubation is >7 days
- Treatment is metronidazole

Campylobacter
A
- Most common cause
- Gram +ve bacillus
- Chicken, poultry and dairy products.
- Flu prodrome
- Crampy abdominal pain, fever, diorrhoea, could be bloody
- 48-72 hours
- Treatment is ciprofloxacin
- Treatment if severe is erythromycin
