Staph Aureus is the most common cause.
Staph epidermidis if within 2 months of prosthetic valve relpacement.
What are the Major Aspects of the Duke Criteria?
2x Positive Blood Cultures
1 Positive Echo
What are the minor aspects of the Duke Criteria?
Temp > 38
Culture Positive
Predisposotion for EC
Vascular/Immonologiclal Phenomena
What is needed from the Dukes Criteria in order to diagnose endocarditis
2 majors and a minor
1 major and 3 minors
Native Valve Indolent
Amoxicillin and gentamicin
Native Valve Severe Sepsis
Flucloxacillin
Prosthetic Valve or Suspected MRSA
Vancomycin and Gentamicin. WHen theapeautic levels are reached then rifampicin is added.
Staph Aureus
IV Drug users (Tricuspid Valve)
Flucloxacillin
MRSA and Staph Epi
Vancomycin + Rifampicin + Gentamicin
Strep
Viridans most likely from dental work
Benzylpenicillin +/- Gentamicin
