inflamation of stomach and gastric mucosa
cause of acute Gastritis
ingestion of contaminated food, overuse of NSAIDs, excessive ETOH, bile reflux, radiation therapy, overseasoned food
cause of chronic Gastritis
ulcers, H. pylori, diet, ETOH, meds, smoking, reflux, autoimmune diseases
Acute Gastritis assessments
abd discomfort
anorexia, nausea (N), vomiting (V)
headache (HA)
hiccuping
reflux
Chronic Gastritis assessment
anorexia
N
V
belching
heartburn after eating
sour tase after eating
B12 deficiency
Acute-Gastritis-specific interventions
withhold food and fluids until SS subside then give ice chips then clear liquids then solid foods
Gastritis interventions
monitors for signs and symptoms (SS) of hemorrhagic Gastritis (hematemesis, TC, HoT)=> notify HCP
notify pt to avoid irritating foods (spices, caffeine, ETOH, nicotine)
use ATB
teaching on B12 if needed
