Gaseous Exchange Flashcards
1
Q
External gaseous exchange
A
- Blood in capillaries is deoxygenated. It contains a low concentration of oxygen and a high concentration of carbon dioxide
- The inhaled air in the alveoli has a high concentration of oxygen and a low concentration of carbon dioxide
- A concentration difference exists between the gases
- Each of the gases move from a high to a low concentration along the diffusion gradient
- Oxygen diffuses into the blood and
- Carbon dioxide from the blood in the capillaries to the air in the alveoli

Q
Internal gaseous exchange
A
- The blood that reaches the cells via the capillary blood vessels has a higher concentration of oxygen than the cells
- In their turn the cells have a higher concentration of carbon dioxide than the blood
- The gases move along the diffusion gradient
- Oxygen to the cells
- Carbon dioxide to the blood
