GAS LAWS Flashcards
1
Q
BOYLES LAW
A
- If temperature remains constant, the volume of gas is
inversely proportional to the absolute pressure - Gas expands as pressure decreases – why a diver needs
to exhale when ascending
2
Q
DALTONS LAW
A
- The pressure exerted by each gas in a mixture is the
same pressure that the gas would exert if it alone
occupied the same volume - Gas expansion causes the partial pressure of oxygen to
drop as gas molecules move father apart, reducing the
available oxygen
3
Q
HENRYS LAW
A
- At a constant temperature, the solubility of a gas in a
liquid solution is proportionate to the partial pressure of
gas - More gas can be dissolved into a liquid at higher
pressure and vice versa
