Trigeminal
Function
- largest of all the cranial nerves and responsible for
moving facial muscles by chewing and facial
sensations

- Sensations of pain,touch and temperature tested
with a safety pin and hot/cold objects corneal reflex
tested with a cotton wisp, motor branch tested by
asking pt to clench teeth

Function
- moves eyeballs

- Pupils examined for size,shape and equality,
pupillary reflex tested with a pen light

Facial
Function
- produces tears, allows for taste, form facial
expressions, saliva production

- ⅔ of tongue tested for taste, symmetry of face is
checked by asking to smile ect..

- Hearing checked by air and bone conduction

- Gag reflex checked, asked to speak/cough, ⅓ of
