Q

What happens during shock? (sub.1 alarm)

A
  • decreased bodily arousal for a brief period of time following initial response to a stressor
  • The body reacts as if it has been injured; biological processes within the body fall below normal functioning
  • The ability to deal with the stressor is reduced below normal

Q

What happens during counter shock? (Sub.2 alarm)

A
  • The sympathetic nervous system responses occur and causes physiological sensations to occur
  • The level of bodily arousal & ability to deal with stressor temporarily increases above normal

Q

What happens during resistance (2nd stage of gas)?

A

High levels of bodily arousal, cortisol levels increase to maintain heightened physiological state; this state is adaptive and adjusts to physiological changes that occur during counter shock.

Q

What happens during exhaustion (3rd stage of gas)?
