Medial rotation of humerus
Subscapular nerve
Which muscle of the rotator cuff is the most commonly torn ?
Supraspinatous
What is subacromial impingement syndrome?
Supraspinatous tendonitis from overuse
Subacromial bursitis
Bony spurs coming off of acromion can pinch bursa or tendon causing pain
Either of these will cause a narrowing of the subacromial space so when elevated arm the inflamed structure will get pinched and causes pain
What is hallmark feature of subacromial impingement syndrome?
The painful arc where maximum pain is felt between 60-120 degrees abduction
This is the angle at which the subacromial space is most narrow
Why is it necessary to strengthen all muscles of rotator cuff when treating subacromial impingement syndrome?
Because strengthening all the muscles will allow for better depression and compression of humeral head in glenoid fossa thus allowing for more clearance between the humerus and acromion during movement
What are ligaments?
Soft tissue structures that connect bones to bones
What is biceps tendon’s relationship to glenoid labrum?
Runs over head of humerus and becomes labrum
