He was a scientist and astronomer

In Pisa, Italy in 1564
What was his interest in school?
He liked maths but other subjects bored him
What did Galileo’s father do for a job
He was a musician and wool trader.
What did Galileo proof while working at the University of Pisa?
That objects with different weight falls at the same rate. People believed that heavier objects would fall faster than lighter objects.
What scientific discoveries did Galileo make?
Military compass that shoot canon balls more accurately
He improved the telescope
Discovered that the surface of the moon was uneven and rough, not smooth as thought
The earth was round and revolved around the sun
What other scientist believed the earth was round?
Nicolaus Copernicus
Why was the Catholic church angry
The best schools were under the catholic control.
They believed that Galileo’s theory that the earth was round was lies.
They banned him from teaching his theories.
But he continued his research and wrote a book, that made the Pope angry, he banned the book and threatened Galileo with torture.
Galileo had to admit his theories about the universe were wrong.
What happened to Galileo?
He was placed under house arrest. He got old and sickly and withdrew his findings and died in 1642
