gait cycle Flashcards

1
Q

what are the phases during the gait cycle

A
  1. early stand + heel strike
  2. Mid stance
  3. Late stance + toe off

Q

what are the hips, knee and ankle doing during early stance?

A

hip: flexion moving to extension (agonists are glutes and hammys)
Knee: locked in extension (stabilisers- quads, hammys, gastroc)
Ankle: dorsi moving to plantar flexion (agonist-triceps surae antagonist - tibialis ant.)

Q

what stance is this:
Hip: coninuosly moving into extension (agonsit = glutes and hammys)
knee: extension into slight flexion (agonists= hammys and gastroc)
ankle: continuosly moving to plantar flexion (agonist = triceps surae)

Q

what is happening at the hip, knee and ankle during late stance?

A

hip: extension (agonists = glutes and hammys)
knee: extension (contracting in hammys and gastroc for next movement)
ankle: full plantarflexion (strong propulsion from agonist triceps surae)

Q

what position in the gait cycle is this?
hip: extension moving ti flexion (agonist = iliopsoas + rectus femorus, glutes and hammys are antagonists to control swing rate)
knee: flexion to lift foot (agonists = hammys and gastroc)
ankle: dorsiflexion for toe clearance (agonist = tibialis anterior)

A

early swing phase

Q

what are the hip, knee and ankle doing during mid swing?

A

Hip: flexion (agonists and antagonists are the same as in early swing)
knee: flexion to lift foot off ground (agonists same as early swing)
ankle: dorsiflexion for toe clearance (agonist = tibialis anterior)

Q

what phase in the gait cycle is this?
Hip: in flexion (agonists = iliopsoas and rectus femoris)
knee: moving from flexion to extension to prep for heel strike (agonist = quads)
ankle: dorsiflexion for stable position for heel strike (agonists tibialis anterior, stabiliser = triceps surae)

A

late swing phase
