gait analysis Flashcards
what are the temporal-spatial parameters or “vital signs” of gait?
-speed
-cadence
-stride length
-symmetrical
what are the clinical factors needed for normal gait?
-muscle + tendon length
-bony alignment
-vestibular function
-proprioception
-vision
-muscle power
-higher executive function
-selective control + co-ordination
-muscle and tendon length
what kind of things do we look for during a clinical exam of gait?
bony alignment - contractures, limb length etc
range of movement - goniometry
muscle tone - mod ash worth scale
power - Oxford scale
co-ordination / selectivity - cerebellar tests
sensation / proprioception - joint position sense, light touch
reflexes - tendon reflexes, clonus etc
balance - timed stance tests
what are examples of outcome measures that can be used to assess gait?
-3D gait analysis eg kinematics + kinetics
-timed walk tests eg 10m walk test, TUG, 6MWT
-observational tools
what are prerequisites for normal gait?
-stability in stance
-foot clearance in swing
-pre-positioning for initial contact
-step length
-energy conservation
