Gait Flashcards
What proportion of the time is spent in each of swing phase and stance phase in a normal gait?
Swing 40 percent
Stance 60 percent
What are the parts of the stance phase and what anatomical movements are they associated with? And what muscles?
Heel strike - controlled relaxation of plantar flexion, eccentric contraction of ant. leg muscles, inverters and everters stabilise, gluteus minimus and medius and tensor fascia lata for balance
Move onto ball of foot - plantar flexion
What are the 4 parts of the swing phase? What anatomical movements are they associated with?
Push off - plantar flexion
Lift limb - flexion of thigh and leg
Raise foot - dorsiflexion
Final swing - extension of leg (at knee)
Which muscles control pelvic tilt during walking?
Gluteus medius and minimus
What is a antalagic gait?
“Painful” limping gait developed by pts with chronic MSK LL pain
What might a high steppage gait indicate?
Foot drop, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy
