G and A classification for Type 1
puncture wounds <1 cm with minimal contamination and muscle damage
G and A classification for Type 2
laceration >1 cm with moderate soft tissue injury
bone coverage adequate, comminution minimal
G and A classification for Type 3a
grade 3 has highest risk for infection
heavily contaminated wound with severe comminution
extensive soft tissue damage with adequate soft tissue coverage
G and A classification for Type 3b
grade 3 has highest risk for infection
periosteal stripping and exposed bone
G and A classification for Type 3c
grade 3 has highest risk for infection
extensive arterial injury
