G.4 Fungus-like Protists Flashcards
Fruiting body
Reproductive structures produced by many fungi (i.e. mushrooms are fruiting bodies)
Acrasin
Substance that cellular slime moles secrete that functions as a chemotactic attraction agent that draws similar amoeboid cells towards them to become a huge mobile multicellular mass
Cyclic AMP (cAMP)
Molecule formed by the loss of two phosphate groups from ATP (amoeboid cells from Phylum Ascrasiomycota have positive chemotaxic responses to cAMP)
Plasmodium/ plasmodium
Plasmodium - genus name of sporozoa that cause malaria
plasmodium - body form of a slime mold
Water mold
Parasitic or saprobic organisms (pertaining to organisms living in highly polluted waters or to saprotrophs) living in fresh water or moist soil
Downy mildew
Common name for particular mold growth of foliage; caused by an oomycete
