Fuze Terminology Flashcards
FUZE
A device with explosive components designed to initiate a firing train or detonation in Ordnance.
Buy an action such as hydro static pressure, electrical energy, chemical, impact, mechanical time, or a combination of these. a non electrical device designed to initiate an explosion in Ordnance by an action such as continuous or pulsating electromagnetic waves, acceleration or deceleration forces, or piezoelectric action.
FUZE,ALL-WAY
And impact fuse designed to function regardless of the direction of impact commonly called in “all way acting fuze”
FUZE, ANTI DISTURBANCE
fuse designed to become armed after impact, or after being in placed, so that any further movement or disturbance would result in detonation.
FUZE, ADAPTER
An adapter that is used to connect a fuse to Ordnance
allows for a smaller-diameter fuse to be used in a larger-diameter fuse well
FUZE, BURST ADAPTER
An adapter that is inserted into chemical or bursting smoke munitions at the factory so that the fuse can be inserted later.
ARMING PIN
A safety device which is inserted in a fuse to prevent the arming cycle from starting.
PYROTECHNIC DELAY
A pyrotechnics device added to a fire system which transmits the ignition flame after the predetermined delay.
SAFETY
A locking or cut-off device that prevent soreness from being fired accidentally
SAFETY CLIP
A clip specifically designed to prevent pressure being applied to the upper portion of a pressure actuated ordinance.
SAFETY PIN
A device designed to fit the mechanism of a fuse and to remain with it throughout transportation.
**presence of the safety device prevents arming or functioning of the fuse. The device is intended to be removed by the user just prior to employment
FIRING PIN
Pain in a firing mechanism that strikes the primer.
Explosive to initiate an explosive train
VANE
a portion of a fuse that turns due to movement of the air or water through them to a line fuse components during the arming cycle
UNARMED
The condition of a fuse (or other firing device) in which the necessary steps to put it in condition to function have not been taken
GRAZE SENSITIVITY
The ability of a fuse to be initiated by grazing the surface at a glancing angle (80 to 90 degrees from the normal)
FUZE SAFETY
two terms commonly used to describe built-in safeties designed to prevent premature functioning at the time of employment, and to provide safety and transportation for EOD.
A. Bore safety B. Detonator safety
