Bio/Chemical Terminology Flashcards
BIOCHEMICAL AGENT
Microorganism which causes disease in plants, animals or man.
CHEMICAL AGENT
Chemical used in warfare to kill, seriously injure or incapacitate the enemy by their physiological effects.
CHEMICAL AGENT - PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS
Are the signs and symptoms on the body after exposure to a chemical agent. Each agent has different effects on the body
CHEMICAL AGENT - PERSISTENCY
The amount of time that a chemical agent will remain in the area.
this is dependent upon weather condition in hydrolysis (ability to dissolve or react with water).
CHEMICAL AGENT - BINARY CHEMICAL
Agent derived from the mixture or reaction of two relatively non-toxic constituents.
purpose of the mixture is to provide a chemical which is superior to its separate components in regard to toxicity
CHEMICAL AGENT/BLISTER AGENT
Agent that attacks the mucous membranes such as the eyes nose and lungs and burns are blisters the skin.
"Vesicant agent" (i.e. sulfur mustard (HD) nitrogen mustard (HN) lewisite (L) phosgene oxime (CX)
CHEMICAL AGENT / BLOOD AGENT
chemical compound including the cyanide group that affects bodily functions by preventing the normal transfer of oxygen from the blood to body tissues.
Cyanogen agent - symptoms include; tightness of chest / nausea headache / unconsciousness and death. Cyanogen chloride (CK) hydrogen cyanide (AC)
CHEMICAL AGENT / CHOKING AGENTS
Primarily attacks the lungs causing pulmonary edema (dry land drowning) symptoms include; vomiting / tightness in chest coughing size choking and death.
CHEMICAL AGENT / INCAPACITATING AGENT
Not designed to kill an enemy but rather incapacitate them so that their ability to fight this weakened.
