Future of NHS and ID/Viro Flashcards
Virology
Pandemic preparedness: COVID following Mpox
- identifcation of novel pathogens, rapid diagnostics, strategies for immunosupressed patients
-climate change: increasing vectors transmitting “tropical” infections
-IPC: experience in donning and doffing
-Worked in GU trials during Mpox
Integrating new technologies
- issues regarding sampling transfer, cost, interpreting and interfacing of results
Syndromic testing, with increasing number of bacterial targets in molecular multiplex
- as a dual feel my training has equipped to deal with clinical aspect of this, however need to be considerate of how it may effect workflow, and my limitations going foward- is it best use of specialist virologist dealing with bordetella/pcp for example
- may detect pathogens we are not suspecting
Issues facing NHS PPP
Patient demographics- ageing, more complex with co-morbidities
Increasing technologies, may lead with complex immunodeficiency states
Need for improved efficiency

Issues: Funding, staffing (work force pressures), increasing inequalities, pressures from growing and ageing population
