Fuel systems 2 Flashcards
how do we embark fuel at sea
Replenishment At Sea
what is the purpose of the filling trunk?
to provide a filling point that will not discharge back up the filling point by using a weir system
what are the purpose of displaced tanks and what level are they filled to?
as the fuel in the tank is used the tanks are filled with seawater for stability but never filled over 90%
what is the purpose of the salt water gravity tank?
used to supply seawater to displaced tanks using gravity to create pressure.
why do we need centrifuges?
to separate seawater and dirt from the fuel using centrifugal force also know as polishing the fuel. once polished we send it to the un-displaced tanks.
what is the max fill level of un-displaced tanks?
95%
what speed does a centrifuge spin at?
5000rpm
why does each tank have a isolation valve?
so we can shut of tanks when they are filled to the desired level.
name 4 ways to embark fuel along side?
road tanker
direct jetty pipeline
jetty storage tanks
fuel barge
what is the name of the supply valve on the fuel boost system?
remotely operated suction valve
what is the value of the pre filters?
5 microns
what does the coalescer do and down to what value?
remove water droplet down to 10ppM
what 3 are auxiliary machines in the fuel system?
ready use tank
emergency run down valve
auxiliary boilers, generator and gas turbine
how are ready use tanks toped up?
by a float switch
what are contaminants of fuel?
water (encourage MBG)
dirt
surfactants
