Fuel Policy / Alternate Requirements Flashcards
Fuel allowance for SID/STAR
320 / 321LR(LEAP) - 100kg
321 (v2500) - 125
(This DOESN’T allow for APP/LDG fuel, that’s seperate)
OM1 9.1.3.1
Min ALTN fuel
15min per CASR 121 if no altn carried.
We use AV8 and it covers that for the planning stage but still have to consider 15min inflight.
OM1 9.1.3.2
VRBL RES (contingency fuel)
5% and not < 5min
OM1 9.1.3.3
What height is holding planned at?
20 000 ft
OM1 9.1.3.4
Limits for simultaneous WX + TFC holding
TEMPO - if total hold > 80min plan an ALTN
INTER - if total hold > 60min plan an ALTN
If payload limited call JOCC to resolve
OM1 9.1.3.4
How much holding is required for INTER TS
60min
OM1 9.1.3.4
Fixed reserve allows for?
30min hold at 1500’
ISA temp as a min
OM1 9.1.3.5
Why might the Fixed Reserve be more than 11/12/1500kg?
High temps, it’s 30min @ current conditions 1500’ down to ISA
OM1 9.1.3.5
Quick Reference FIXED RES
320 - 1200kg
321 (v2500) - 1500kg
321 (LEAP) - 1100kg
OM1 9.1.3.5
Taxi fuel amount and how much APU burn is allowed
120kg (all acft)
30min APU burn + start and taxi
OM1 9.1.3.10
(FMS only has .1 increments so gets rounded to .2)
How do icing conditions affect fuel planning?
Buffer on MLW when tankering
500kg
OM1 9.2.1
When should you decline tankering?
Ice/snow/slush at destination
Destination RWY is wet and NOTAM advises reduced braking action
Landing RWY Has displaced THS bringing LDA < 1800m A320 / 2km A321
Company operational document specifically advises against it on that sector
PIC deems operationally necessary
OM1 9.2
If you have wx holding requirements and you’re tankering is the wx holding in addition to or included in the tankering fuel
Included, you burn it from the tankering fuel in case you don’t have to hold as you’d be above MLW
What is the assumed APU burn?
100kg/hr
OM1 9.3.2.1
Standard SG if not recorded on fuel docket
0.79
OM1 9.3.4
Can you start or shutdown an APU during refueling?
As long as the APU hasn’t failed to start or an auto shutdown occurred
OM1 9.3.6.1
Min distances when refueling
5m sealed building
6m stationary aircraft
15m unsealed building
15m exposed public area
Measured from refueling point or vents or ground fuelling equipment
OM1 9.3.7
What size fuel spill does OM1 9.3.9 consider can create a fire hazard
2m x 2m within 15m of the aircraft
Rough SARs
5.5 high level crz
8.5 DP crz
6.5 OEI crz
When should the centre tank pumps be off for refueling?
Refueling above ~12.1t
so the CTR TK PUMPS LO PR warning don’t appear
PRO-NOR-JSS-C p3/46
CTR TK PUMPS LO PR warning comes on in flight. What are your actions?
(On ground or inflight)
Check the centre tank quantity.
If <200kg it can be considered spurious and the pumps should just be switched OFF and the mode selector to MAN.
Consider turning back on in stable cruise flight. If unsuccessful, turn OFF / MAN and consider the remaining fuel unusable.
PRO-NOR-JSS-C p3/46
What is the danger of leaving the FUEL MODE SELECTOR pb in MAN on the ground when the CTR TK PUMPs are ON?
Possibility of fuel spillage if there are any hidden failures.
PRO-NOR-JSS-C p3/46
How does an inflight emergency affect reserve fuel requirements?
Fixed reserve gets halved to 15min
Fuel for Approach and Landing
5min at Holding rate
