PORTABLE o2 BOTTLE PREFLIGHT CHECKS
Present
Secure in stowage bracket
Presssure gauge reads min 1500 PSI
Mask attatched to the flow outlet (HI if dual outlet, RED dot = LO flow)
Single outlet portable o2 operation
Fit strap diagonally across body. Bottle in front, pressure gauge up.
Turn flow control anticlockwise
indicator will be red while in transit to 2L/min when youll get a 2 indicated and a click
for 4L/min continue to turn until 4 displayed
Duration of portable o2
4L/min lasts 60 min
2L/min lasts 120min
Portable o2 precautions
- Avoid** bumping/dropping** the bottle.
- ** No ignition sources within four (4) m**etres of oxygen equipment.
- Avoid contact between oxygen equipment and oils or grease (remove recipient’s make-up before administering oxygen).
- When administering oxygen to a passenger, the bottle must be secured, to prevent movement and possible injury during turbulence or other unanticipated aircraft movement. This can be achieved by securing the bottle to the seat frame using two Infant/Extension seat belts.
- When cabin crew are required to fit an oxygen bottle while moving around the cabin, i.e. during post-decompression follow-up duties, fit the carry strap over the head and shoulder to ensure the bottle is secure (strap diagonally across the body). Keep the cylinder to the front of the body so the gauge can be monitored.
Halon Fire Extinguisher preflight checks
- Present.
- Secure in stowage bracket.
- Arrow is in the green band on the pressure gauge.
- Seal intact.
Halon Fire Extinguisher Precautions
- PBE should be worn;
- Before discharging on the flight deck, oxygen masks and smoke goggles, oxygen regulators set at 100%;
- Whilst non-toxic, high concentrations of BCF can lead to dizziness, impaired concentration and coordination difficulties;
- Don’t allow any metal part of the extinguisher to make contact with live wires;
- If fighting fluid fires avoid getting too close to reduce risk of scattering or splashing fluid surface.
What colour are Crew Life Jackets?
Orange
Adult/Crew/Infant Life Jacket Preflight checks
Present
Sealed
Lifejacket precautions
- Never inflate manually before pulling tags
- Must not be inflated in the cabin
NEO PBE preflight checks
(air Liquide)
- Present
- Indicator GREEN (RED=U/S)
- Seal Intact (Green)
- Validity period/epiry date
PBE Precautions
- Remove combs, scarves, earings etc to avoid puncture
- careful not to damage neck seal with glasses, necklaces and earings. Dont interfere with neck seal once in place
- ensure long hair is positioned above the neck seal
- hair can ignite if in contact with flame
- dont expose directly to flame contact as O2 accelerates combustion
- dont remove in the presence of flame
- Dont use water to cool down the canister

PBE preflight checks NON-NEO
(AVOX)
- Present.
- Seal intact.
- Moisture indicator (not pink*).
PBE Precautions
- remove objects from around the head (combs, scarves, long earrings or jewellery) to prevent them puncturing the hood or damaging the neck seal.
- Do not damage the neck seal when fitting. Be especially careful with glasses, necklaces and earrings. Do not interfere with the neck seal once it is in place as this will allow smoke into the hood.
- To avoid leakages, ensure long hair is positioned above the neck seal inside the hood.
- If hair protrudes from under the neck seal, it could ignite if brought into direct contact with flame.
- Heavy losses in the respiration circuit can occur when the mask is not fitted correctly. The result
may be a CO2 build-up in the hood. - Do not intentionally expose the device
to direct flame contact. - After use, do not remove in the immediate presence of fire or flame due to oxygen saturation of
the hair. Do not smoke or become exposed to fire or flame immediately after removing. - Do not use water to cool down the canister.
