Fuel and fire detection systems Flashcards
What is the fuel tank layout and respective quantities?
Right wing (580 lb)
Left wing (580 lb)
Collector (40lb) (Slightly offset towards left wing)
What fuel is the aircraft normally refuelled with?
F34
What is the max total fuel after pressure refuelling?
1100 lb
How can fuel be topped up after pressure refuelling?
Using over wing gravity refuelling ports to 1200 lb
What should be checked during the first few seconds of a pressure refuel?
Operation of the pre-check valves routes fuel straight to the level control pilot valves and the refuel should stop.
How is air pressure equalised in the wing tanks?
Vent pipes
What happens if a float valve is submerged?
The Pressure Relief Valve will open at +1.66 psi (Heating from sun or a/c climbs)
The Vacuum Relief Valve will open at -1.66 psi (Cooling overnight or aircraft descends)
How does fuel gauging work?
If a probe is even partly submerged in fuel it sends a signal to the EDM with its reading. The EDM takes the outermost ‘wet’ probe fuel reading and assumes all probes inboard of it will be sending a full signal.
What is fuel flow normally at cruise power settings?
350 PPH
What does a red FUEL PX caption mean?
Fuel pressure has fallen below 10 psi
What does the BOOST PUMP advisory mean?
The boost pump is running (this can be during engine start, if the pressure drops or if it is switched on)
What does an amber FP FAIL caution mean?
Fuel probe has failed
What is the default BINGO?
400 lb
What are the 2 BOOST PUMP switch settings?
ARM - controlled by PMU or low pressure sensor (10 psi) in motive flow line
ON - runs constantly
What does the PMU do with the throttle and fuel system?
PMU adjusts the fuel flow from the FMU to the engine to smooth out the power response curve
