Engine, propeller and associated systems Flashcards
What engine does the Texan use?
PT6-68 turboprop engine
How much SHP does it produce?
1100
How many stages are in the centrifugal flow compressor?
1
How many stages are in the axial flow compressor?
4
What are the 2 main sections of the engine?
Gas generator section and power turbine section
What is the accessory gearbox driven by?
Gas generator shaft
What is mounted underneath the reduction gearbox?
Combined chip detector and oil drain plug
What is the PIU?
Propeller Interface Unit
What are the three positions marked on the throttle quadrant?
OFF, IDLE and MAX
What are the 4 functions of the PMU?
- Assist FMU with fuel metering to the engine
- Monitor engine parameters and prevent exceedances
- Command the FMU to set IDLE N1 @ 60% on the ground, 67% in the air
- Command the FMU to set IDLE NP @ 80% when above 10,000 ft (reduces propeller stress in spins)
- Monitor and schedule the start sequence
What must you do when you see ST READY?
Count 3 seconds to see if the caption stays on
Why will the PMU abort the start?
- If start takes too long (hung start)
- ITT gets too high (hot start)
- No light-up (no fuel flow or ITT rise)
- Battery busbar voltage goes too low
Oil system capacity?
18.5 quarts
Intentional zero G is limited to _ seconds
5
What 2 methods can the PIU use to dump residual oil pressure in the prop to feather it quickly?
Prop servo valve
Feather dump solenoid valve
