Points to be included :
- Shape
- Size
- Color
- Body Division
- Integument
Shape :
- Spindle shaped
- Streamlined
- Anterior pointed and posterior blunt
- Bilaterally symmetrical
Size :
The size of Rana tigrina is about 12 - 20 cm in length.
Color :
-Smooth and moist
-Dorsal surface is green with black patches
- Ventral surface is yellowish white
- Light yellow line which runs mid-dorsally from nostril to the vent called mid-dorsal line.
Body Division : Head
(Body is divided into head and trunk)
-Head :
1.Triangular in outline with pointed snout in front
2. Mouth is located ventrally almost at the tip of snout that extends transversally from ear-ear
3. At the tip of snot there are two small and oval openings called external nares or nostrils
4. Presence of large eyes covered by three eyelids
- Outer membranous covering of middle ear called tympanum
- Vocal sac in male
prominent upper eyelid, thin movable lower eyelid, nictitating membrane
Body Division : Trunk
- Head is joined by trunk due to absence of neck
- Short, flattened
- Two pair of limbs arise : fore limbs and hind limbs
- Hind limbs are stronger
- Copulatory pad in males
- Each limb consists of proximal part called thigh or femur
- Webbed limbs
Integument (Outermost layer) :
- Soft and Moist
- Lacks exoskeleton
- Two layers : outer epidermis and inner epidermis
- Forms horny layer - stratum corneum which is shed off from time to time which is called ecdysis or moulting
- Dermis - Inner layer than epidermis
